Senators approve changes to South Carolina immigration law
South Carolina senators approved amendments to the 2008 law shifting penalties away from fines for hiring illegal immigrants and toward license suspension for noncompliance. The bill would bar citizenship checks by driver’s licenses alone, require use of the federal E-Verify program, and create an enforcement unit. it now goes back to the House and could reach Gov.
