Aiken and the West Side Bowery: A Tale of Bargains and Bars

Aiken grew from a 19th century romance between railroad man Alfred Dexter and planter William W. Williams, funding a Charleston to North Augusta line and a town named for railroad president William Aiken. The West Side Bowery's space began as a stable then a saloon, revived in 1981 amid local skepticism and little interest.
