Brandon Mississippi residents report a territorial mockingbird attacking visitors at the Rankin County courthouse. District Attorney David Clark describes the bird as extremely aggressive, diving from a nearby tree near the main entrance to deter people approaching for a hatch.
In Gretna Louisiana, Theodore Anseman age 29 and Cheryl Anseman age 25 received the maximum 21 year prison terms after a manslaughter conviction for starving their 13 month old daughter Heather. Neighbors testified they offered medical help, but the couple refused. The pair face trial on cruelty charges for three other children under six. Judge Burns condemned the deaths as heinous and horrible.

Aiken County Councilman W Edward Butler says numerous calls logged from county administrator W Scott Barnes car phone were released to Channel 6 under FOIA. Barnes was arrested on a charge of unlawful use of a phone and later released on a 5000 personal recognizance bond as the council weighs the fiscal budget.
Energy Secretary James Watkins rejects rumors of quitting and accuses some defense contractors of a disinformation campaign aimed at undercutting him.
