Aiken Council Won’t Protest Sunday Alcohol Sales
The Aiken City Council voted Thursday not to protest Sunday alcohol sales in area grocery and convenience stores. It unanimously approved informing the South Carolina Department of Revenue no formal protest is planned and planned to seek legislative relief to clean up state codes. The Pantry Corporation sought Sunday sales in Aiken, listing the city on its permit application alongside Summerville, which already has several Pantry outlets. Bi Lo Kroger and Wal Mart are among retailers seeking licenses, with the Revenue Department in a 15 day comment period on issuance.
