Retirees May Get Bigger Tax Break
Rep. Charles R. Sharpe says the Fiscal 1996 budget would preserve a $20,000 homestead exemption for those 65 and older and add a $100,000 exemption for all homeowners. The changes would reduce taxes on local assessments including schools, potentially leading to many retirees paying little to no tax on a $120,000 home.
