South Carolina firms view job tax break in budget plan
Businesses could save about 53 million dollars in unemployment taxes next year under a 1997-98 budget proposal. Employers would save roughly 33 dollars per insured worker, with larger cuts for fund surpluses. those owing money would not receive relief. A study panel would review current unemployment taxes and report by November 3.

Moonshine Raid Nets Multiple Arrests in Saluda County
Saluda law enforcement and SLED agents arrested farmer Wyman Adams 52 and his two sons Matt 19 Brock 21 along with an employee during a raid on a Saluda County moonshine operation. About 400 gallons of liquor and 3,000 gallons of mash were seized at Adams seed farm just outside Saluda. Authorities say more arrests are expected as the three year investigation continues, with charges including manufacturing and possession of illegal liquor and conspiracy.
