Washington AP reports the House rejected land use planning legislation in a 211 to 204 vote amid impeachment politics. Rep. Morris Udall criticized the White House for hypocrisy and lack of lobbying effort.
Congress approves funding to build 12 more Fills at about 17 million dollars each in the coming fiscal year. The Pentagon did not request the multimillion dollar war planes, which faced sharp opposition over cost and technical concerns for nearly a decade.

U S Steel Corp announced immediate price increases on bars semifinished products red wire and plates used in auto and heavy construction. The boosts come to near rival levels and are expected to lift overall revenue by less than 3 percent.

Aiken County youths from low income families take part in a summer program rebranded from Neighborhood Youth Corps under the CETA system. Administered by the Aiken Edgefield Community Action Commission, the program places nearly 300 high school students in public or private nonprofit firms for 25 hours weekly to fund school needs and curb dropouts.
Maurice Williams, planning and zoning chairman, says special zoning pacts require sending a member from each affected area to the zoning boards. He warns it could expand to six or seven areas and delay maps. A zoning board meeting to delineate the radius is set for next Tuesday and the agreement could take up to a year.
