Coronavirus sidelined poll workers and trained 215 new workers online for Georgia elections. On Election Day long lines formed due to faulty equipment and distancing, sparking criticism of state officials and a push to address problems before the November general election.
McMaster says shutting down is not the answer and stresses individual responsibility amid the pandemic. He notes that a shutdown would hurt communities and that the state continues to test, with 4078 tests reported and a roughly 13 percent positive rate. Aiken County areas including Aiken, New Ellenton, and North Augusta rank high in case volumes as South Carolina surpasses 261,000 tests conducted since the start of the pandemic.
