Georgia Power inks new pact on Vogtle nuke project
Georgia Power and Westinghouse parent Toshiba reach a deal affirming Toshiba’s 3.68 billion guarantee for Plant Vogtle. The accord aids Vogtle funding secured by DOE loans totaling over 8 billion and preserves about 800 permanent plus 3,500 construction jobs while management shifts from Westinghouse to Southern Nuclear and Georgia Power. Payment timing and interim assessment terms are clarified, with the first Toshiba payment due October 2017 and court approvals pending.
