Longshoremen protest nonunion labor at port loading
Charleston witnesses an informational picket outside the State Ports Authority as longshoremen protest use of nonunion labor on a Russia-bound freighter. ILA Local 1422 president Kenneth Riley cites The NOCS Group from New Orleans and Carolina Marine Handling switching to nonunion workers. The dispute arises despite wage concessions and a two-year union labor pledge. The Green Glacier project and port operations feature, with overtime pay pushing top earnings above 100000 annually for senior longshoremen.
