Runoff Set in Aiken County Sheriff Race

Republican Heath faces either Paul Grant or W Ralph Gunnells in a June 24 runoff for sheriff after Heath won the GOP primary by 523 votes. Democratic primary outcomes left Grant and Gunnells with 4 375 and 3 329 votes respectively and Yarbrough and McCormick trailing.

Harte Wins Solicitor Race In Second Judicial Circuit

Robert J. Harte defeats incumbent Sylvia W. Westerdahl by about 64 percent in Aiken County and wins Bamberg and Barnwell as well. Harte vows no immunity deals for witnesses and limited plea bargaining while stressing harder work to present issues and improve law enforcement relations. Westerdahl declines comment amid tight victory margins and Harte’s strong show in Gloverville Graniteville Jackson Langley and Lynwood precincts.

Aiken County voters cast ballots while poll workers led by Cathy Rawls, a Wagener precinct 39 manager and Wagener Elementary School poll supervisor, volunteered long hours.
