Senate panel votes no confidence in DJJ leader Freddie Pough

A South Carolina Senate subcommittee voted no confidence in Department of Juvenile Justice Director Freddie Pough after a four hour hearing where six current and former agency workers testified about worsening conditions at the states main juvenile prison in Columbia. The panel followed a protest by about 40 employees over pay morale and staffing issues with some workers working 24 to 36 hour shifts. Pough defended his tenure saying reforms take time and pledged to fix the culture. Governor McMasters office noted staffing solutions and pay raises in next years budget while stating private security would assist immediately.
