Severe storms hit Aiken County causing almost 2000 SCERG customers to lose power. Roads were blocked as crews cleared toppled trees and restored service. City hall also lost power. City Council meeting was postponed to June 16 at 6 30 p m.
With primary day underway in Aiken County elections office gears up for a busy turnout in House districts 81 and 83. Executive director Stuart Bedenbaugh projects 30 to 35 percent turnout, about 1000 ballots total with 780 absentee already cast, and notes June elections bring staffing challenges but no major issues expected.

Aiken volunteers from Sand River Salkehatchie Camp replace roof and porch, repair sills and walls, paint ceilings and walls, and install floor coverings in a home owned by Wilma Tra Vick. Sixty four volunteers work on six projects sponsored by St. John’s United Methodist Church with Bruce Burns as crew chief and Bob Kosky assisting. Officials praise community support as the weeklong effort continues.
