Al Zarqawi death won t end terror threat to US

The report says Zarqawi s death removes a high profile figure but leaves independent terror cells and global networks capable of attacking. It notes Al Qaeda resilience, ongoing plots in Europe, and potential for renewed violence in Iraq as commanders adapt after his elimination. British PM Blair comments frame the pause in violence.

Al Zarqawi's network tips end two week hunt in Iraq

Iraqi forces and U.S. officials say a two week operation tracked Abu Musab al Zarqawi to his spiritual adviser Abu Abdul Rahman al-Irai and led to an airstrike that fatally wounded both, after a long pursuit with insider help. A Predator flight and two 500 pound bombs flattened a two story house near Baquoba northeast of Baghdad.

Global reaction mixed after al Zarqawi killed in Iraq

Western officials warned violence would continue despite al Zarqawi's death. Khalid Khawaja and other analysts argued jihad would persist, while Tony Blair called it a victory and Bush framed it as an opening for Iraq's new government. UK and US-led forces maintain large troop presence in Iraq.
