Prison break at Clinton Prison sparks hunt for two killers
Authorities pursue Richard Matt and David Sweat after they escaped Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York using improvised tools and beds to flee. Sweat sits life without parole for murdering a Broome County sheriff's deputy in 2002, while Matt, 48, is serving 25 years to life for kidnapping, dismembering, and killing his former boss in 1997. Deputy Kevin Tarsia’s brother recalls relearning the killers’ names as the escape prompted a vast manhunt and questions about possible inside help. Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the operation highly elaborate and said the sounds of the escape must have been heard.
