Aiken School Board to weigh budget and expulsion plan
The Aiken County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the 2009-10 budget after a meeting at 7 p.m. The district expects 6.9 million in federal stabilization funds for 2009-10 and more in 2010-11, but the tentative budget omits those funds. The board will discuss spending priorities and hear public comment on stabilization funds, amid prior cuts to teaching, classroom size, athletics, travel, supplies and programs. The meeting includes a discipline committee report on interventions before expulsion, a proposed disciplinary tribunal option, and recognition of South Aiken High School’s state soccer title and North Augusta High School track champion William Rudisill.
