Canyon search blocked for missing Utah girl Elizabeth Smart
About 1,200 volunteers and deputies searched a heavily wooded canyon after a volunteer reported a suspicious man seen near Emigration Canyon. A man wearing a white hat and shirt fit the kidnapper’s description, gunshots were heard, and authorities closed the canyon overnight. Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her Federal Heights home at gunpoint. Police say an intruder forced open a window at about 1 2 a.m. Wednesday and warned the younger sister not to tell.
