Single Airline Airports Spark Debate On Fares
The GAO and Air Transport Association clash over hubs. GAO says hub airports raise fares per passenger mile by 27 percent at 15 hubs and curb competition. ATA study finds two thirds of hubs show lower fares and overall hub fares only 1.5 percent above non hubs. Both note deregulation reduced fares and hubs boost efficiency. The Senate subcommittee on aviation probes hub impacts.

Judge Bars Tapes In N C Trial Of Parkway Deaths
In Newton North Carolina Superior Court Judge Claude Sitton barred jurors from hearing a Gibbs taped telephone conversation. James Clifton Gibbs 37 Fayetteville man is on trial for two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Helen Gibbs and Susan Haire who fell from a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook in October. The tape aimed to question a witness about an alleged abuse incident, but the judge ruled it inadmissible though other testimony about the affair and abuse was admitted. The case centers on Gibbs denying murder and claiming the women jumped or fell accidentally.
