Washington letter to Gen. Moultrie dated 1793 found in Charleston

The South Carolina Historical Society received a faded Washington letter from August 28, 1793, written to Gen. William Moultrie about Creek Indians tensions. Donated by Moultrie descendants, the document is valued for its content more than its price, and will be shown June 28 during Carolina Day celebrations before vaulting.

Trial for trooper death opens in Connecticut chase

In Sumter, Hartford man Eric Ridel, 36, faces murder charges for the May 2005 crash that killed Senior Trooper Jonathan W. Parker during a police chase from Walterboro to Interstate 95. Prosecutors say Ridel sped at 100 mph and rammed Parker’s cruiser. defense cites accident. Witnesses describe spikes deployed. Parker’s cruiser left off-road, engulfed in flames as Ridel tried to flee.
