Tax rebate could fatten state coffers not taxpayers
Iowa and eight other states may tax federal rebate checks under nine state laws that deduct federal tax payments from state liabilities. Oklahoma City taxpayer David Dank says the plan is outrageous though not surprising. Iowa leaders will discuss the issue in a special session amid debate on whether to exempt rebates for consumers from state taxes.
