A 27 year old Bennettsville man, Larry Wayne Hatchel, is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill in the shooting of Highway Patrolman G J Davis. Hatchel is held at the Central Correctional Institution in Columbia with no bond. Davis is in satisfactory condition at Marlboro General Hospital after being shot with a .22 caliber pistol during a traffic stop.
