Peach crop outlook bright despite drought in South Carolina
Growers in Spartanburg and the Piedmont expect an outstanding peach crop with an estimated yield between 175 million and 200 million pounds, up from last year’s 100 million. Officials cite good quality and flavor while noting a early cold spell may have slowed growth but caused no damage. Major growers rely on irrigation to handle dry spells.
