One-time Citadel hopeful joins West Point
Nancy Mellette of Irma, who once pursued Citadel cadet admission, has been appointed to the US Military Academy at West Point. She previously enrolled last year in the Fort Monmouth Prep School after following the Citadel court case and is a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Academy in North Carolina. West Point nominees are chosen by grades, service and activities, while Citadel admitted four women last fall after lifting its all-male policy. The Supreme Court had ruled a similar policy at VMI unconstitutional.
