Robbery Suspects Arrested in North Augusta Case

North Augusta Police report arrest of James Duffy 38 and Julie Garrison 22 in Cold Water Michigan for the May 23 robbery of Dr. J M Garrison. A third suspect, Clark Lawless 18, Augusta, has an active warrant. About $6000 in jewelry and cash were recovered. other items remain missing.

Election Back In Court for District 5 Council Race

The District 5 county council race between L Kline Paulk and Billie K Trapp is back in court after the state Supreme Court ordered a recount of challenged ballots. Ralph C. Haywood of the Aiken County Board of Canvassers said the Republican attorney requested another hearing, keeping John H. Pound serving on the council seat he declined to seek last year.

Teen intruder jailed after home break in with shot during theft

Minnie Townes shot at intruder Ronnie Blocker during a May break in and Blocker, 19, faced a 15 year sentence for burglary and 10 years for assault and battery with intent to kill. He pleaded guilty before Judge Rodney A. Peeples, claiming intoxication at the time.

No Action On Second Aiken High School Planned

The Aiken County Board of Education took no action last night on the second Aiken high school. In executive session members met with the project architects to review contract details for construction. A decision on contracts for the second Aiken high school and the new Silver Bluff High School is expected at Thursday night’s session per chairman J P Kneece.

Williams: South Carolina school system pursues history catch up

State school superintendent Charlie Williams says South Carolina’s education is in a catch up phase to undo discrimination spanning centuries. He cites undereducation of a third of the population for cheap labor, notes progress in ten years, and reports listening sessions across six cities with 1,300 participants.
