A letter to the editor accuses the mayor and City Council of proposing raising the SCE&G and ABB franchise fee from 3 percent to 5 percent, warning seniors on fixed incomes would bear the burden while criticising local tax policy and road funding. The writer notes a $20 city residents fee and calls for disclosure of who voted for the funding.
The city outlines which streets will receive funding from the new road fee. Bicycle lanes are exempt from taxation and bicycle users are not taxed. The plan specifies arterial routes and maintenance projects without levying charges on bicyclists.
