Students and graduates receive diplomas as the 1926 honor roll is read. The program includes music, prayers, salutatory, a chorus, and a report by the Board of Trustees. The next term begins September 13 with a perfect attendance slate highlighted.

Langley Lake Girl Scout Camp Planned At Kiwanis Site

Aiken schedules its annual Girl Scout Camp for June 7 to 14 at Kiwanis near Langley with strict safety rules. Camp features supervised swimming, nurse on site, Red Cross trained directors, screened quarters, and meals at 35 cents per day’s fee per girl, plus labeled bedding and packing instructions. Visitors limited to designated day. gift shop and canteen planned. Stunt Night and a week of activities highlighted.

Frazier McCall Dies in Georgia Community

Death of Frazier McCall of Guyton Georgia occurred Monday morning May 24 1926 after long illness. Funeral held at Turkey Branch Baptist Church Tuesday at 3 PM Rev Carton officiating burial in adjacent cemetery. Survived by wife Ola seven sons four daughters one brother two sisters and mother along with many nieces and nephews.

Building and Loan Meeting Attracts Local Leaders

The annual Aiken Building and Loan Association meeting reported strong finances with about 6.5 percent net earnings. A new board was elected led by R. L. Gunter as president and A. K. Lorenz as vice president. Sheriff and deputies seized a moonshine outfit at Bogard Hill, destroying vats, mash, and whiskey, and arresting occupants. In Madison, deputies arrested J. T. Scott and Fannie Tyler for illegal whiskey possession.

Julius N Overstreet died at his Graniteville home Thursday morning at 2 o clock He was born in Edgefield County in 1846 served two years in Co F 7th South Carolina Volunteers during the Civil War Funeral services were held at the Graniteville Baptist church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock Rev Cs TeBow officiating Interment followed in Graniteville Cemetery He is survived by sister Mrs Mary Sharpton of Graniteville and two sons L M Overstreet of Washington DC and J L Overstreet

Shooting Targets Couple Near Aiken while Returning from Augusta

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cushman were fired upon Sunday evening three miles from Aiken while returning from Augusta. A Ford car passing them opened fire, one bullet shattered the windshield and a shard struck Mrs. Cushman on the arm. Authorities seek the assailants.

Sunday afternoon Dr. McLean united A. J. Blackburn Jr and Miss Margaret Stowart in marriage at the Baptist parsonage in Augusta. The ceremony was witnessed by intimate friends and the couple will reside in Augusta.

Death Notice of Mrs Annie Mitchell in Bath

Mrs. Annie Mitchell widow of the late Oscar Mitchell died at her Bath home after several months illness. She was 26. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Bath Baptist Church with Rev White officiating. Interment followed at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruby Lee.

Walker charged in local auto theft case

Last week Harry Poythress reported his car missing from Laurens street. Chief George traced Lee Walker to Spartanburg and returned him to Aiken where Walker admitted taking the vehicle while drunk. Walker is a 21-year-old white man.

Williams House rebuild bid awarded to Anderson Stiefel Co

On Monday bids opened in Augusta for the Williams house reconstruction recently bought by John W. Converse. The Anderson Stiefel Construction Co of Aiken was the low bidder and awarded the contract with a bid near $17,000 for extensive additions and modernization.

Scurry Weds Hungerpiller at Edgefield Baptist Parsonage

Miss Margaret Hammond Scurry became the bride of Mr. James A. Hungerpiller in a Sunday morning ceremony at the Baptist parsonage officiated by Dr. McLean. A large congregation attended the ring ceremony and the couple left for a wedding trip before settling in Edgefield. friends offer congratulations. Billy Sunday adds a note urging couples to praise their wives.

Gaston Bank Profits Shown to Stockholders in 1926

Dr W Gaston Sr President reports to depositors and stockholders that Gaston Bank is liquidating well with over 9 000 cash on hand and more than 100 000 repaid to bank holders. He claims profits of 4 million in 1925 after expenses and outlines plans to pay all depositors in full, offering a 25 percent loan on deposits and warning against lawsuits.

Kiwanis Club Opens Aiken Pool For Youth

The Kiwanis Club will open the Aiken pool next Monday afternoon for boys and girls with 4 to 6 pm hours if patronage warrants. Admission is five cents, and pricing aims to stay low all summer. Mrs. W. C. Clifford will supervise, and the club has repaired the facility this week.
