Haley urges lawmakers to return for government reform
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley demanded a return to the State House to pass four major government restructuring bills. She urged a joint ticket for governor and lieutenant governor, a new Department of Administration, an elected education superintendent, and merger of prisons and probation agencies. Senate leader Glenn McConnell questioned her authority to call back a recessed Legislature. House Speaker Bobby Harrell said lawmakers should be at desks Tuesday.
