Margaret Bertha Nichols 92 died in Newberry after a 42 year career at Vaucluse Elementary School where she taught grades and served as principal for 13 years. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Services were held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
The South Carolina Board of Funeral Service canceled Cave Funeral Home and director Michael Cave after an unlicensed worker cut the legs of 6 foot 7 man James Hines without family consent so the body would fit a standard casket. The board fined Cave 500 dollars and ordered 1500 dollars for investigation. The final order will determine if Cave can reapply for licensure, with evidence turned over to investigators.
