In Manning Arkansas, more than 100 workers at South woods Arauco Lumber Millwork LLC will lose jobs when the Chile based firm closes. The company cited a weak housing market and low sales volume as the reason. Workers will receive 60 days pay. Local emergency workforce programs will assist with job placement. Barry Drops to Tropical Depression as Florida Nabs Rain
Tropical Storm Barry weakened to a tropical depression as it moved through Tampa Bay, bringing 3 to 6 inches of rain with isolated totals up to 10 inches. Forecasters warned drought conditions remain, but fires may ease. Residents in Homosassa reported cleanup and renewed river activity despite minimal wind impact. The storm's rain aimed to blunt drought while remaining a weather-maker rather than a tropical system.
