Over Hundred Die in Floods Across Mississippi Valley

The Red Cross placed the known death toll at 114 with more possible. Refugees total 282,605 with 137,341 in camps and 241,264 outside. Typhoid and smallpox inoculations reached 285,000 and 110,000 respectively. Flood relief fund stood at 14,531,000 as health crews, inspectors, and physicians from multiple states and the U S public health service aid the effort.

Prof Howard M Byrd of Graniteville mourns the death of his father William M Byrd a noted planter of Darlington County who died after a prolonged illness at his home Monday night Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon George Thorpe Jr returned to Lakeland Florida after visiting his family in Aiken.

Schroder Property Sold on Laurens and Richland Corner

Charles L. Weeks of Montmorenci purchased the Schroder business property at the Laurens Street and Richland Avenue corner for $18,000. The four buildings and an old wooden structure, partly burned years ago, face the Whiskey Road. Weeks plans to subdivide the property and pursue development with partners Amory, Brickyate, and Aiken Investment Co. Barnard of New York is noted in the transaction.

James H Moseley Dies After Sudden Heart Attack at 59

James H. Moseley of the Levels area died suddenly at 6 o clock Sunday morning from a heart attack. He 59 years old and longtime farmer near Aiken. Survived by wife Annie Burckhalter Moseley and adopted son James F. Moseley. Funeral Monday at Levels Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon for over forty years.

Mrs. Amos West Dies After Operation in Durham

Mrs. Amos West former Graniteville resident and sister of B F Etheredge of Aiken died Sunday in a Durham North Carolina hospital after an operation. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 PM at the Graniteville Methodist Church conducted by Rev A B Ferguson. She is survived by her husband two sons and one daughter.

Mrs Mary Matthews Dies in Savannah

Mrs Mary Matthews formerly Miss Mary Hender shot, died Monday in Savannah Georgia. Her remains were brought to Aiken for interment in St Thaddeus churchyard Thursday morning.

Death at Aiken Ice Co plant leaves family in grief

William P. Simon chief engineer at Aiken Ice Co was killed when a 6000 pound fly wheel exploded and debris mangled him. Another wheel and ammonia lines caused extensive damage though patrons faced no outage. Survived by widow and seven relatives funeral held at Salvation Army citadel.

At a U D C meeting the boulder monument for Jefferson Davis Bridge could not be erected due to repairs. The event was postponed and a social hour for veterans and Daughters was planned at Coker Spring pavilion starting at 5. Clearwater School Holds Commencement for Three Graduates

The Clearwater grammar school held closing exercises Thursday night with three graduates receiving certificates. The new building cost about 20,000 dollars and the reorganized school, led by principal Annie Mae Mims, features five teachers and 185 students. Certificates were handed by Supt. C. H. Seigler. Alf Traylor Addresses Aiken Agricultural Club on Dairy Plan

Wednesday at the Aiken Agricultural Club featured Hon. Alf L. Traylor of Richmond County speaking on cows hogs and hens. He described a bank loan plan to fund dairy cattle with farmer independence from cotton and noted Augusta bankers backing it with up to 25000. A barbecue followed for about 200 attendees.

Typhoid Cases in Aiken County Prompt Health Measures

Redds Branch School Closes Splendid Year
