John James Mixon 75 of 214 West Buena Vista Ave North Augusta died Monday at a Lexington County hospital. Graveside services were held today at 2 p.m. in Westover Memorial Park. Poseys Funeral Home North Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

A LaPorte man was arrested about 3:30 am and charged with murder and attempted murder in the wounding of Mayor A J Rumely Jr. and the shooting death of his wife. Rumely remains in critical condition in the hospital ICU. A made silencer was found near Mrs Rumely, age 69, who died after the home intrusion in an exclusive neighborhood.
The Aiken Public Safety Department reports an attempted safecracking at Revco Drugs in Kalmia Mall around 4 30 a m yesterday morning. A short wave radio operator monitoring transmissions since 2 30 a m alerted officers at the Waffle House on Richland Avenue and led to the suspect fleeing, leaving behind tools used to crack the concrete reinforced steel safe.
A 17 year old jailed on warrants for traffic violations died of head injuries in the Ada County jail exercise yard. Authorities say the assault occurred during a Memorial Day holiday with reduced staff and went unnoticed for hours. Christopher Peterman is named by the coroner as the deceased.
