Alaska gardeners grow season with high tunnels
In Palmer Alaska Stephanie and Jim Gaiser use a 72 foot high tunnel to extend the growing season. High tunnels create warm microclimates allowing crops to grow earlier and later in the year. Federal aid from the Natural Resources Conservation Service has funded about 4 million dollars in cost sharing, with Alaska leading in uptake.

New drugs may make dent in lung ovarian cancers
New cancer drugs show promise against tough cancers. An experimental lung cancer drug extended life by about six weeks for relapsed patients, at a high cost per infusion. Imbruvica improved survival in CLL, offering a targeted option for older patients. AstraZeneca pills delayed disease progression in recurrent ovarian cancer, though results varied.
