Auten's Family Restaurant celebrates one year with a pancake eating contest featuring eight competitors from a 32-name draw. Contestants may start with two to 20 pancakes, utensils optional, with syrup or butter allowed. The winner earns a trophy, dinner for four, and a 10 game pass from Hole-in-One Family Fun Center. Approved sales tax ballot moves to council review
The Capital Projects Sales Tax Commission unanimously approved the ballot Thursday and sent it to Aiken County Council for third reading. A public hearing is planned for Aug. 10, and council could choose not to include the referendum in the November general election. If not approved, the tax could not be revived until November 2012.

Man charged after high speed wreck in Aiken
Aiken man fled from pursuing deputy during an 80 to 90 mph chase on Outing Club Road late Tuesday and escaped the burning car before being captured the next day. Ralpheal L. Robertson 27 of Daylily Place was charged with driving under suspension leaving the scene possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana and failure to stop for blue lights. An Aiken County Sheriff Office deputy spotted a vehicle with broken taillights and pursued down Vaucluse Road before the driver crashed into a tree on Hancock Road.
