Immunization Push Targets Aiken County Students

About 6 500 public school pupils remain unvaccinated under the April signed regulations requiring kindergarten through 12th grade students to be immunized. Only 3 500 of roughly 10 000 affected Aiken County students have begun vaccines. Jo Ann Proffitt warns lines at the Health Department could stretch to two or three days if refusals persist.

Four Death Row escapees tracked to North Carolina

Three of the four Georgia prison escapees were captured in Lake Wylie near Charlotte after fleeing Reidsville. The dead escapee, Troy Gregg, was found in the Catawba River in Gaston County. The three survivors Timothy McCorquodale, David Jarrell, and Johnnie Johnson were held for extradition as authorities continued to investigate the breakout and identity was confirmed by fingerprints.

County residents urge closing of Belvedere adult book store

At a public forum in Langley County about pornography residents urged the county attorney to take all possible steps to close the Stage Five Cinema in Belvedere. The forum hosted by Aiken County Citizens for Decency Through Law drew about 75 people including council members and candidates.
