Suspect Arrested in Wagener Sex Crimes Case After Traffic Stop
Antonio A. Garcia, 30, a Mexican national from San Luis Potosi, was jailed after a traffic stop on Bettis Academy Road in Graniteville. An active arrest warrant for criminal sexual conduct with a minor over a decade old led to his arrest for allegedly assaulting a 12 year old in Wagener between December 31, 1999 and January 31, 2000. Garcia faced additional charges for open container and driving without a license with bond set at 100000.

Eight SRS public tours planned this fall
The Savannah River Site will reopen for eight public tours starting in September with added features including a Savannah River Ecology Laboratory stop and drive by views of Dunbarton and Ellenton. Tours last about four hours from the Aiken County Center for Hydrogen Research and require citizenship 18 or older with valid ID and full name. Registration at srs.gov or hanford.gov/srstours.

Warren Whitson, 65, longtime Aiken County educator who helped open Silver Bluff High in 1980 and later served as principal there again for three years, died at his home Monday. He guided multiple schools and offices in the district over a 36 year career.
