Fire destroys three historic Williston buildings

A fire in Williston July 13 damaged four structures including First Citizens Bank and Jackies Florist. Investigators tentatively ruled the blaze accidental with arson ruled out. about 15 firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation as the investigation neared closure.

Hope on horizon for Aiken Edgefield economy says leader

Tim Dangerfield, chair of the Economic Development Partnership of Aiken and Edgefield Counties, spoke at the annual meeting about rough seas ahead but optimism for job growth and investment. Assessor Plans Adjustments to Mobile Home Values

Aiken County tax assessor Patricia Antley announced Thursday that adjustments will be made to appraisal values for many of the county’s 12 000 mobile homes amid complaints about the reappraisal process. Older mobiles will be flat valued at 2 000 dollars, and data is being re checked for mass corrections regardless of owner action.
