Economic experts warn South Carolina agencies may endure midyear reductions as early as September if the economy does not improve. Revenue data through May and June show a troubling trend, jeopardizing projections for 2003-2004 and signaling the sixth midyear cut since May 2001.
Clemson Extension agent Suzanne Holmes notes most insects rarely threaten healthy people but ticks are external parasites that feed on blood and can transmit illnesses such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Most bites do not cause illness, but seek medical care if headaches or health problems follow a tick bite.
