Clemson Football Player Danforth Charged With Burglary

Kenneth Danforth a 23 year old former Clemson safety and three varsity letter winner was charged with first degree burglary linked to an incident at another Clemson apartment. He was released on his own recognizance and the university will decide his status after more information becomes available.

FBI Report Says Crime Up In U S

The FBI said crime reported to police rose 5 percent last year marking the first year-to-year increase since 1981. The Sunbelt led the gain with migration to the South and West and a rebound in the 16 to 24 age group cited as contributing factors.

Kingsmore at Bat for Graniteville Co. Chief Operating Officer

GRANITEVILLE—Harold Douglas Kingsmore, 53, was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Graniteville Co. on June 2. He moved from a family textile background after a short baseball career, later earning a Clemson degree and rising through textile operations to top executive ranks. His son Mike holds a similar role at Riegel Textile Corp. in Trion, Georgia.

Mercury Levels In Langley Pond Declared In Need Of Caution

The South Carolina DHEC issued a health advisory for Langley Pond advising against eating fish from the pond due to elevated mercury in fish tissue. Officials note prior cleanups improved water quality but sediments remain contaminated and further sampling will continue to locate the mercury source.

County City Attorneys Debate Letter Contest

The city of Aiken asks the State Ethics Commission to monitor questions from the county Public Service Authority PSA about whether PSA members who are city employees conflict with ethics laws. PSA chair William F. Thompson recently retired from United Merchants and Manufacturers Inc. and the board includes five members employed by the entities they serve. Robert M. Bell, the county attorney, gave an opinion that the PSA is not a regulatory body, allowing customer employees to sit on the board, with an updated ruling anticipated at the August meeting.

American priest Jenco freed by Islamic Jihad captors in Lebanon

Rev. Lawrence Jenco, 51, of Joliet Illinois, freed after 19 months in Bekaa Valley eastern Lebanon. He arrived at the U S Embassy in Damascus with a headache. A video from hostage David Jacobsen criticized Washington while Islamic Jihad threatened further actions if Kuwait frees jailed associates. Jacobsen compared his plight to Custer.
