Stewart Sets Track Record at Charlotte IRL Race
Tony Stewart powered to a 217.164 mph qualifying lap to claim the pole for the VisionAire 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a speed far faster than any stock car record there. The IRL debut drew a sparse crowd, with under 3,000 in attendance as promoters target 70,000 for the main race.

Anderson Still Has Plenty Of Kicking In Him At 36
Despite a botched kick that barely affected his team’s fate, kicker Morten Andersen remains a standout with a 3-13 season finish for his club. Coach Dan Reeves believes Andersen will reach the Hall of Fame someday, citing his accuracy and longevity as reasons he could top scoring lists before retirement. Andersen calls himself an artist on the field, while acknowledging occasional misfires as part of the craft. Desmond Howard and Larry Brown remain sidelined for Oakland with minor injuries as Warrick Dunn signs a six-year deal with Tampa Bay, adding to the Buccaneers’ roster depth and Dunn’s Florida State record-setting legacy.
