Worlds smallest guitar carved from crystal silicon
Researchers at Cornell University fashioned a micro guitar about 10 micrometers long from crystal silicon to show how mechanical devices can be built at microscopic scales. The six strings are 50 nanometers wide and can be plucked with an atomic force microscope tip, illustrating nanotechnology’s potential in optics, displays, sensors, and electronics.
