DOT board names seven priority road projects including the I 85 I 385 interchange in Greenville as ready to start once funding is secured. The list was sent to the State Infrastructure Bank for financing, though the bank may choose not to follow it.
The plan lists eight lane widenings on I-26 I-85 I-526 I-20 and I-77 with price tags from 39 million to 534 million and routes through Columbia Greenville Spartanburg Charleston Lexington Richland Cherokee. The bank board and DOT will meet next month amid coastal bias complaints. Lawmakers recently approved a 1 billion funding package using borrowing growth revenues and vehicle tax reallocations.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a district ruling barring provisions of South Carolina's 2011 immigration law. It prevents making it a crime to lack immigration documents or for undocumented people to house or transport themselves. The decision notes the law criminalizes basic actions like studying, working, or caring for families. The ruling keeps federal jurisdiction over such matters.
Former South Carolina state treasurer and real estate developer Thomas Ravenel, 50, was arrested in East Hampton Village, Hamptons, for drunken driving after driving on the highway shoulder and crossing a double line. Officers reported odor of alcohol, unsteadiness, failed field sobriety tests, and Breathalyzer refusal. He posted a $650 bond and faces court later in the week.
