Plutonium Shipment Under Way From SRS to TVA
The first shipment of weapons grade plutonium left the Savannah River Site to Tennessee Valley Authority storage and processing. The material is blended with natural uranium to form low enriched uranium for TVA reactors, a step in nonproliferation efforts. Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin, Tennessee, will prepare the fuel under DOE oversight.
