Underground greenhouse found in Fairfield County grows crops then raided
An underground 5500 square foot greenhouse carved into a red clay hillside near Winnsboro produced four crops yearly valued at about 1.7 million dollars annually. Police said the Monday raid by federal state and local authorities found only a few marijuana plants and no arrests. The facility had generator lights and running water and lay off Secondary Road 403 near U.S. 321.

Two Men Injured In Head-On Collision On Hitchcock Parkway
A head-on crash on Hitchcock Parkway near Houndslake Drive left Stephen King 41 of Aiken shaken and Ronald L. Distasio 36 of Aiken and Kenneth Williams 30 of Aiken with injuries. The 1970 Cadillac King stopped to turn left when the 1978 Ford pickup swerved into the opposite lane and struck the 1985 Mustang driven by Distasio. All three vehicles plunged into a drainage ditch and caught fire. Police said Williams was in the left lane at impact and the Mustang occupants were taken to an Augusta hospital in critical condition.
