Beef pollutes more than pork poultry study finds
A study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences says beef generates five times more heat trapping gases per calorie, six times the nitrogen pollution, eleven times more irrigation water use and twenty eight times the land compared with pork poultry dairy and eggs. Lead author Gidon Eshel of Bard College cites inefficiency in converting feed to protein. A cattle association spokesman calls the findings an oversimplification and notes improvements in sustainability.

Beef worse for environment than other meats study says
A study finds dairy and eggs have similar footprints to pork and poultry, but cows emit far more methane. Replacing beef with other proteins could cut a substantial share of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, according to Eshel and Caldeira.
