Woman falls from trestle drowns near Augusta bridge

Rebecca Lord Hagler, 23, of North Augusta, died after falling from a railroad trestle into the Savannah River near the Sth Street Bridge. Witnesses saw her walk with friends and fall while climbing a trestle edge. The Richmond County dive team recovered the body about 7 am after a 3:30 am call. Spectators gathered along the riverbank hours later for boat events.

Where Do Education Lottery Funds Go in South Carolina

The South Carolina Education Lottery funnels dollars into prizes, education programs, retailer commissions, and operating costs. In 2010 11 prizes consumed 63.6 percent of sales, about 1 047 billion dollars on tickets, while more than 2.8 billion has been appropriated to education since 2002. Transfers to the education lottery account comprise 25.8 percent, with retailer commissions at 7 percent and operating costs at 36 percent.
