Ex Congressman to head Thurmond Democrats
Former U S Representative Kenneth L Holland will chair Democrats for Thurmond in 1984. Thurmond praised Holland as an asset and Holland said he expects criticism but will press on. Holland, a former Ways and Means member and Boll Weevil Caucus participant, left the House in 1976 and now backs Thurmond’s re election bid. He sees no strong Democratic challenger emerging, naming Governors Riley and Derrick as unlikely rivals.
