With under two weeks left in the Aiken Standard vegetable contest Clara Fields of Langley leads the tomato category with a two pound 14.55 ounce entry. Davin of Aiken sits second with two pounds 7.7 ounces. RJ Simkins of Williston has the top four pound 14.05 ounce yellow squash entry. The heaviest tomato or squash winner earns $100.

Harte Rehired as New Ellenton Town Attorney

New Ellenton Village council rehired John Harte as town attorney Tuesday after Mayor Arthur Hanna sought his return. Harte previously led the post before January, replacing by Fantry Jr. and Crosby Lewis, who left on July 3. Hanna said Harte would reduce his fee as finances recover and pressing sewer issues loom.
