North Augusta Combines Fire and Police Into Public Safety
North Augusta City Council approved amending the city code to create a public safety department by merging police and fire services. A public safety director will oversee four divisions with a defined chain of command and duties, including training and investigations. A 12 percent pay raise for officers was approved to support the transition, with cross training and court attendance required for some personnel. A tax collection duty shift to the tax collector was also approved, and a delinquent tax total of 15,341.34 was reported. A public hearing on Home Rule Act provisions followed the meeting.
