The state offers a hearing aid specialist licensure qualifying exam with applications due by Aug. 14. The written test will be administered by the DHEC Health Licensing division on Sept. 11. Licenses or temporary permits are required for selling or fitting hearing aids unless the seller is a licensed doctor or audiologist.
The Youth Wing of the Aiken Community Playhouse opens the comedy Up the Down Staircase directed by Shannon Smith. Andrea Mikel plays Sylvia Barrett a first year teacher in a high school setting with romance and school officials’ orders. Performances today Saturday and July 27 28 at 8 pm with a Sunday matinee at 3 pm. Tickets are 7 adults 5 students with ID and 3 children 12 and under. Reservations 648 1438.
Four area high school seniors vie for the 2001 South Carolina Junior Miss title at Pendleton High School in Anderson. Keila Ravenshine Aiken Heather Keck Edgefield Kristie Argo Warrenville and Mckenna Jones North Augusta represent the region. Contest criteria include academics interviewing fitness presence and talent. The top eight will perform again for the final cash scholarship and the winner advances to America's Junior Miss in June.
A veterans tribute service will be held Sunday afternoon at St John’s United Methodist Church. The National Day of Prayer Choir will perform America A Pilgrim's Prayer A Patriot’s Dream under Barb Rollins. Purple Heart Bronze Star and Silver Star recipients will be honored. Guest of honor is Harry L Burdette a former POW. Marine Corps League participates. The service begins at 5 pm in the Ebenezer Center gym on Newberry Street and is open to the public.
