Court rules against black farmers who missed deadline
A federal appeals court on Friday ruled that about 300 black farmers who sought late claims under the 1999 Pigford settlement cannot reopen their discrimination compensation. Judges said deadlines for appeals had long passed, despite arguments the delays were caused by attorney errors or lack of notice. The case sparks renewed calls for congressional action as billions have been paid to thousands of farmers.
